The benefits of Linseed Oil, and its contribution to health in the human diet has long been recognised, and documented. Testaments to its benefits abound, with Omega 3 Fatty acids being widely used to help treat and prevent many and diverse ailments.
Whole Linseed, – the most concentrated vegetarian source of Omega 3 fatty acids found in nature – is widely thought to provide the same benefits for animals, when properly processed, and included in their diets. The balance of Omega 3, 6 and 9 fatty acids found in Linseed is unique in feed ingredients, and its use in Thoroughbred and Racehorse diets has long been deemed a necessity. Micronization destroys the “anti nutritive factors” and the palatable meal can be fed direct from the bag. The high oil and low starch content makes linseed a “safe” conditioning feed and benefits (glossy coat etc.) can often be seen within weeks of feeding.
Charnwood Milling Company have pioneered the “cooking” of whole linseed using the Infra Red Micronizing® Process, developed by them and their sister company, Micronizing Co UK in Suffolk, in the United Kingdom.
Linseed provides the greatest level (26%) of high quality dietary fibre in any food. The mix of soluble and insoluble fibre retains water in the intestine aiding gut flow.
